La Sonya Gunter

LaSonya Gunter is an Emmy Nominated and Celebrity Makeup Artist based in New York City. She has been a fixture in the business for 20+ years, and her work spans TV, Film, Editorial, Red Carpet, and Broadway. Her artistry can be seen in film and TV shows such as The Greatest Showman, Pose, The Godfather of Harlem, The Gilded Age, and Jesus Christ Superstar Live on NBC (Emmy Nomination). She served as the Makeup Designer and Department Head for the first season of Legendary on HBO Max. She also served as the Associate Makeup Designer for the Broadway show The Rose Tattoo with Marisa Tomei. Other Broadway credits include Wicked, Hairspray, The Color Purple, Chicago and Kinky Boots. One of her most iconic Red Carpet makeup designs is Billy Porter’s Egyptian Sun God look at the 2019 Met Gala. She recently collaborated with Mr. Porter as the Makeup Designer and Department Head for an upcoming untitled movie project, which is also his film directorial debut. Other Celebrity clients include Brendon Urie, Wayne Brady, Brandon Victor Dixon, Andrew Rannells, Cassandra Freeman, Todrick Hall, Joan Jett and Darlene Love. LaSonya is a member of the I.A.T.S.E. Local 798, Hair and Makeup Union and is a guest professor at Muhlenberg College. She currently works with Renée Elise Goldsberry on the second season of Peacock’s hit TV show, Girls5eva.
